In a significant stride towards environmental sustainability, Teoma Group has recently concluded a landmark project set to revolutionise waste management in Victoria. This transformative endeavor not only underscores Teoma’s proficiency in delivering intricate, reactive solutions but also highlights our dedication to meeting the unique needs of our clients. Our Industrial Department spearheaded this project, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Victorian Container Deposit Scheme
Project Overview
Spanning over 5000 hours, this ambitious project involved the fabrication and installation of critical infrastructure under the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) initiated by the Victorian Government. Our scope included the detailed fitting out of kiosks, depots, and a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) recycling/sorting plant, embodying a holistic approach to waste management.
Extensive Collaboration and Expertise
The project saw the involvement of over 20 mechanical technicians, industrial and commercial electricians and engineers working on the project, this multidisciplinary team ensured that all aspects of design, engineering, fabrication, and installation were managed in-house, and their expertise was instrumental in achieving remarkable outcomes.
Infrastructure and Installation:
We meticulously fabricated and installed six custom panel builds, comprising seven Direct Online Starters (DOLs), two Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), and a Category 3 Safety E Stop, adhering to AS/NZS 4024.1 standards. Additionally, custom-designed awnings and ramps were seamlessly integrated with existing structures to enhance both aesthetic appeal and functional accessibility.
Innovative Solutions Amid Challenges:
Our adaptability was put to the test when faced with supply chain delays. Rising to the challenge, our senior engineers expedited the development of six custom control panels, innovatively using readily available parts to meet urgent deadlines. The re-engineered control system included enhanced features such as an HMI for improved alarm notifications and operational efficiency.
A Collaborative Effort with RE Group (Returnit)
In collaboration with RE Group (Returnit), we equipped 40 kiosks and 21 depots across southeast Melbourne and developed cutting-edge MRF facilities in Hallam. Under the CDS scheme, eligible containers like cans, bottles, and cartons can be submitted for a 10-cent refund, promoting recycling and reducing landfill waste. Our onsite teams, including experienced industrial electricians and mechanical fitters, handled the intricate installation processes with precision, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
Sustainable Impact and Future Prospects
The primary goal of this project is to spearhead sustainability in Victoria’s southeastern suburbs. By reducing landfill waste and enhancing the quality of recycled commodities, the CDS scheme sets a benchmark for future sustainable ventures. Teoma Group’s technical and logistical prowess played a crucial role in the successful execution of this project, reinforcing our status as a leader in integrating sustainable practices with industrial innovation.
Through this project, Teoma Group has not only demonstrated its technical excellence but also its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. As we continue to innovate and lead in this space, we are proud to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for Victoria.
