The award-winning project presented to NECA for evaluation was the holistic solution as delivered on ITW Buildex’s Aspire 5 production line. The production line (like the Aspire 5) consists of 4 machine units with each of these units requiring safety upgrades. The highest distinction on projects of this nature is the need for a full, comprehensive solution being integrated not only from an automation or mechanical safety perspective but also the process control requirements and training needs for a complete safety solution. The process facilitated by our in house CMSE (Certified Safety of Machinery Expert) consultants draws back to include the human element and functional operation of the facility before implementing a safety solution.

Broad Process Overview:
  1. Consult and review operational requirements
  2. Carry out Hazard identification and Risk Assessment
  3. Safety Design

The major stand out for Teoma automation and safety of machinery clients is the ability of the team to carry out all steps and aspects successfully in house. The common industry practice is to engage various consultants and integrators for specific tasks, which still requires in-depth end-user in-house knowledge to manage all responsibilities and scope. Due to the depth of knowledge required and this approach not being seamless, often find the final solution, despite best efforts, unknowingly and sometimes dangerously results in unrealised residual risks.

All works were undertaken in an inclusive manner with the knowledge and experience of all personnel that currently work with the machinery being utilised throughout the project, including management, supervisors, mechanical maintenance, setters, operators, a pneumatic automation specialist, skilled industrial electrical trades and a certified machinery safety expert (TÃœV NORD)

Teoma have provided ITW Buildex a unique combination of electrical, mechanical, and fluid power ‘total’ safety of machinery consultative and integration works, for their ‘Aspire 5’ roofing screw manufacturing line. The total safety of machinery approach provided by us to the project was an outstanding tool for our customers, assisting them to confidently and seamlessly achieve their technical and commercial WHS responsibilities.
