Commercial Electrical and Industrial Automation for Dandenong South | Relocation of 2 Manufacturing sites & Warehouse Fitout - Teoma

Summary

With a combined Commercial Electrical and Industrial Automation teams, our company is regularly approached to assist in upgrading or relocating manufacturing facilities. The relocation at Pro-Pac utilised both Teoma’s Commercial Electrical and Industrial Automation departments to complete decommission two manufacturing facilities and then relocate them to one larger combined site.

With a critically limited project timeline and the complexities associated with decommissioning and recommissioning multiple production lines, this project is a strong demonstration of Teoma’s Capability.

Project Background

Teoma was engaged by a consultant to assist in the relocation of two packaging manufacturing facilities. The 6500sqm site in Dandenong South provided a perfect blank canvas for our team to work with. The initial project timeline required our team to complete over 800hrs of labour in 9 days. The client required absolute minimal downtime with machines being decommissioned between shifts, relocated, and re-commissioned prior to the next day’s business. With a need to coordinate actions seamlessly across 3 sites the management burden of this project was high. Luke Crockford stepped in to lead this project, coordinating activities to match the client’s requirements. Through sound project planning and management, the team was able to facilitate the complete works package on budget and on time.

The Works

Teoma was appointed to handle all general electrical works which included general light and power to all machines and onsite distribution. In addition to this, the Teoma industrial automation was engaged to decommission and recommission all 22 machines across the three sites. The proposed site was a 6500sqm facility in Dandenong South used previously as warehouse storage.

The plant lines being relocated are predominantly used to produce a large variety of packaging products used across all industries including food production. As such, additional precautions were required to ensure hygiene was maintained across all project activities.

The site in Dandenong South required a lighting upgrade to bring the production area up to a universal 600 lux light level and initially, overhead cable tray to all locations in the 6500 sqm facility. In total, the team installed over 450m of cable tray supporting over 1.6kms of cable.

To facilitate these initial works, Teoma had up to 12 electricians, and 5 scissor lifts working in unison. As the overhead cable tray was finalised, the team established new distribution boards and established electrical feeds to each proposed machine location.

In parallel, the Industrial Automation team began decommissioning machines and relocating them to the new Dandenong South facility. Once the machines had arrived on site they were installed in their appropriate location and hooked into the new electrical infrastructure. After the first machine was installed, the site became a live manufacturing site, which did add an additional layer of complexity.

In anticipation of this, Teoma had completed all of the general light and power works allowing all large plant and equipment to be removed from the site ensuring safety and seamless operation for the client’s plant operators. From this time, the remainder of the 22 machines were decommissioned and relocated with works being completed on time and on budget with no hold-ups or concerns.

Under these circumstances, the client was able to engage Teoma for both our general electrical and industrial automation capabilities. By working with one contractor in these areas the client appreciated the seamless delivery of works without the need to engage and coordinate with additional trades.

Teoma was able to demonstrate a professional approach to both project management on the onsite delivery of works across the three sites and even demonstrated agility in accepting additional scope at the request of the client.

This relocation is one of many that Teoma has completed. With consistent project delivery for over 30 years, the team have established themselves as professionals in South East Melbourne.
