Summary
Teoma is a well established commercial electrical company operating across Melbourne. Over the 20+ years of operating the team have established themselves as the go-to electricians for both private business and local government. In this instance, the team was engaged under an ongoing supply contract to carry out upgrade works of 132 “Allura” pathway light fittings.
The works initiated by the City of Greater Dandenong were aimed at improving the light levels, aesthetics and maintaining energy efficiency across the council-owned lighting network. The new energy-efficient LEDs were used to replace outdated metal halide fittings.
Project Overview
This installation was completed across various pathways and public areas in the Dandenong CBD located in South East Melbourne. In total the team of 4 carried out the removal of 132 redundant light fittings and the subsequent replacement of these with 132 Allura LED light fittings.
The Allura is a highly efficient 75w LED fitting made from polycarbonate and cast aluminium. Further to the council client’s energy efficiency objectives, the fitting is made from recycled materials and has been created by the designer to reflect the key principles of the circular economy.
Key Project Stats
Teoma’s team were up to the task led by our Service manager Shane Osborne. Works were scheduled in the early morning to minimise the disruption of foot traffic in the Dandenong CBD. With continuous foot traffic through the CBD, traffic management and public safety were of high concern.
The team rose to the occasion completing works in a staged manner. This ensured manageable works areas but also mitigated any need for extensive sections of Dandenongs public lighting being out of action for any period.
The Works
A typical day on site for the team began with establishing the works area with signage and traffic controls before moving to isolate the immediate lights being upgraded. While 2 team members were doing this the remaining team members would begin putting out the new light fittings at each pole location. The team would then move to work together terminating and installing the new light fittings with re-energising and testing being completed at the work’s conclusion.
By utilising this efficient 4 man team the client had the works completed promptly over the space of 1 week’s worth of mornings without compromise to the operational aspects of the CBD business or the public’s safety.
Over the last 5 years, Teoma has continued to be a valued project partner of the council being called on to complete numerous lighting upgrades and improvement works. With a number of our team residing in the Dandenong council, we retain a connection to this community and always take pride in the continuing development.
Some of our notable past projects with the City of Greater Dandenong include our NECA award-winning installation at the Drum Theatre and lighting upgrades through the Mccrae Street Mall.
Although this project was completed as a public lighting project the benefits of LED area lighting upgrades are numerous. These benifits can be realised by clients in their private car parks and are highly useful in industrial areas for security lighting.
