Teoma Group: Proud State Finalists in NECA Awards for Large Industrial Electrical Projects Melbourne

Proud State Finalists in 2024 NECA Awards

Teoma Group, a well-established electrical contracting company with over 35 years of experience, is thrilled to announce that we have been named state finalists in the NECA awards for our outstanding work on a large industrial project. This recognition underscores our commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability in the electrical and mechanical engineering industry.

Since our inception, Teoma Group has been dedicated to servicing both commercial and industrial clients with top-notch electrical solutions. Our team is comprised of experienced Industrial Electricians and in-house CMSE® – Certified Machinery Safety Experts and Engineers, who specialise in complex automation and control systems. Our services extend beyond installation, encompassing comprehensive maintenance and emergency response to keep our clients’ operations running smoothly.

Our expertise also spans a wide array of industries, from local government and educational institutions to various commercial businesses in Melbourne. Our mechanical technicians are highly skilled in bespoke fabrication and design, ensuring every project meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Award-Winning Project: Recycling Plant for Food Grade Plastic

The project that earned us this prestigious place as finalists in the NECA awards involved the mechanical and electrical installation of equipment for a state-of-the-art recycling plant. This facility processes plastic bottles from the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), converting them into food-grade plastic. The end product is then used in the food and beverage industry, promoting a circular economy by reducing landfill waste.

Our scope of work included:

  • Designing and installing sub mains to four control panels, comprising 1000amp, 2 x 800amp, and 1 x 400amp boards.
  • Mechanical installation of all components, including fabrication of supports and pipework.
  • Wiring of motors, I/O, operator controls, flow sensors, level sensors, position sensors, and sub-circuits ancillary equipment.

Despite challenges such as a tight timeline and out-of-order delivery of components, our team showcased exceptional project management and technical skills. Methodical measuring and precise execution were crucial to overcoming these hurdles.

Key Project Statistics

  • 9500 hours dedicated to the project
  • 6 mechanical technicians and 8 industrial electricians** involved
  • 2km of sub mains and 5,000m of cable** installed
  • 214 devices safety audited

Assembly and installation of machinery including conveyors, magnet frames, optical sorters, hammer mills, shredding machines, zig-zag sorting units, and de-labelling units.

Technical and Innovative Excellence

Our team’s technical proficiency was evident throughout the project. We crafted custom ladders and handrails to complement the raised walking floors, installed over 200 three-phase motors driven by variable speed drives, and completed over a thousand field I/O terminations with point-to-point testing.

The collaborative effort between our mechanical and electrical teams ensured seamless operations and successful commissioning. The use of high-quality materials and adherence to Australian standards and Quality Assurance accreditations further highlights our dedication to excellence.

Commitment to Sustainability and Safety

Teoma Group is proud to contribute to environmental sustainability through this project. By converting baled plastic bottles into reusable materials, we are significantly reducing landfill waste and promoting recycling.

Safety is paramount at Teoma. Accredited with ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management, we implemented rigorous safety measures, including hot works policies, barricades, updated permits, and comprehensive inductions. These protocols ensured the well-being of all employees and contractors involved.

Nurturing Future Talent

This project provided valuable hands-on experience for our apprentices and engineering interns. They worked alongside our experienced team, gaining insights into cable tray installation, sub mains pulling, motor and instrumentation cable termination, and project commissioning. This mentorship is integral to their professional development and our commitment to fostering future industry leaders.
